Jon Favreau Sees ‘The Mandalorian’ in Joel
Jon Favreau appears to be watching The Last of Us along with the rest of the world. But, the guy behind The Mandalorian has a keen interest, as he is also keeping an eye on his own leading man. And he’d be excused for giving a double take as he watches a foster parent safeguard his child – who possesses secret skills – from a world bent on causing them harm. The Last of Us, on the other hand, provides us with something distinct in Pedro Pascal’s Joel: we see his face! In Favreau’s Star Wars spin-off, Pascal portrays Din Djarin, Favreau claims we won’t see more of Pascal’s face from behind his helmet in the forthcoming third season of the show, instead asking viewers to “see it on HBO!”
In an interview with Empire, Favreau lauded both his leading man and the programme itself, pointing out parallels as well as contrasts, as well as the inspiration for that powerful, quiet, and protective type.
Pascal has already mentioned two projects important to his heart, complimenting the work of Favreau and Dave Filoni in an interview prior to the release of The Last of Us. While he was proud and appreciative of both opportunities, he couldn’t imagine himself playing another part as powerful as the two in such huge productions in the future.
“To be honest, I don’t believe I can manage a third,” Pascal stated. “I am overjoyed to have been a part of these two events. They seem to be quite interested in one other’s relationships. I believe that Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni’s affection for these stories is precisely why they are so wonderful to experience. And I’ll have to say the same thing about the individuals behind what we’ll see in The Last of Us.”
The seventh episode of The Last of Us Season One will premiere on HBO and HBO Max on Sunday at 9 p.m. See the trailer below.
