Fast food franchisees have slammed Cardi B and Offset’s McDonald’s contract.



American rapper Cardi B, 30, and Migos star husband Offset, 31, revealed their relationship – and personalised meal – with Mcdonald’s last month, but the decision to engage with the pair, known for their vulgarity and sex-laden lyrics, has sparked controversy.

Cardi’s official lunch includes a cheeseburger, BBQ sauce, and a big Coca-Cola, while her meal includes a Quarter Pounder with Cheese and a large Hi-C Orange Lavabust. To round up the meal, the pair orders huge fries and a hot apple pie.

According to Fortune, several franchisees have referenced McDonald’s Golden Arches Code, which states: ‘Partnerships with celebrities and influencers that have the potential to damage our brand based on remarks they have made or their stance on certain subjects are not acceptable.

‘Music partnerships related with content that contains foul language in the lyrics’ are also prohibited.

Cardi B’s classic 2020 song WAP (an abbreviation for Wet A** P****) featured over 40 swear words and created a filthy TikTok dance movement.

Dick Adams, a former McDonald’s store owner and adviser to franchisees told the magazine the Cardi B -Offset endorsement was a ‘cultural shock’.

‘Especially if you’re a franchisee, 50 or 60 years old, don’t have any kids, and haven’t been exposed to any of these songs,’ he added.

‘I’ve talked to a lot of franchisees who are worried about it, but it’s excellent for sales and corporate supports it. I don’t believe there is much opposition.

‘Across our marketing, we’re focused on putting McDonald’s at the core of culture,’ Tariq Hassan, McDonald’s chief marketing and customer experience officer for the US market, told Artist collaborations have helped rekindle customers’ enthusiasm for our cuisine while also generating considerable financial momentum for both the firm and our restaurant owners/operators.

‘And the reason they’ve been so successful is that our partners are genuine lovers of the brand – genuineness is our secret sauce. Cardi B and Offset are a famous couple with a long-standing date-night routine at McDonald’s.

‘With our current campaign, which is about love and honouring the unique moments we all have over McDonald’s, we’re happy to share a tiny bit of that with consumers throughout the Country.’

It was also stated that franchisees were dissatisfied when rapper Travis Scott worked with the fast food chain in 2020 – owing to his obscenity-laced lyrics.

For $6, you could have a Quarter Pounder with cheese, bacon, and lettuce, french fries with BBQ sauce dip, and a Sprite drink.

As the Super Bowl ad announcing their contract aired last month, Cardi and Offset teased the supper on Instagram with the remark, ‘Get ready guys! Cardi B and Offset’s meal will be available on February 14th at McDonald’s.’

‘Let me tell you, date night at McDonald’s is done perfectly. It doesn’t have to be completely wild. ‘Grab your date, have some delicious food, and have fun,’ Offset explained in a statement.

‘Whether it’s a date night or grabbing a snack after late-night studio sessions,’ Cardi B said in a statement.

‘And now Offset and I have our own supper!’ ‘I want everyone to taste it, especially with that BBQ sauce,’ she said.
