The Release Date of Black Panther 2 on Disney+ Announced
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever now has an official Disney+ streaming release date as its blockbuster theatrical run continues.
The highly anticipated sequel, directed and co-written by Ryan Coogler, the director of the original Black Panther in 2018, was released in theatres in November, getting good reviews from moviegoers and reviewers alike.
Following the death of Chadwick Boseman’s King T’Challa, the film follows Shuri (Letitia Wright) as she strives to come to terms with her loss while simultaneously dealing with the entrance of Namor (Tenoch Huerta) on the international stage.
Although the film has just been in cinemas for two months, many fans are already asking when they will be able to see Black Panther: Wakanda Forever from the comfort of their homes.
Following previous rumors that placed the film’s streaming release date as January 20th, Disney+ (via ComicBook.com) has now officially stated that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be accessible to view on the platform beginning February 1st, 2023.
The film’s exclusive theatrical window is significantly longer than that of Marvel’s previous picture, Thor: Love and Thunder, which opened in cinemas on July 6th and was later released on Disney+ on September 8th.
Will there be a third installment of Black Panther?
The box office success of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is a major deciding factor in whether the film will receive a sequel.
Coogler’s sequel has already grossed more than $820 million globally, surpassing Thor: Love and Thunder’s total of $760.9 million. From a purely financial standpoint, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has done well enough to warrant a sequel.
Aside from the film’s box office success, Coogler has lately revealed enthusiasm for returning to the franchise after initially being silent regarding the possibility of a third feature.
Coogler previously claimed that he and Marvel intended to evaluate audience reactions to the film before exploring Black Panther 3, and with the second film receiving such good reviews, it appears that fan desire for another entry is there.
Despite Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s high box revenue and reviews, any potential sequel must also have a compelling plot worth telling. Thankfully, the sequel establishes Shuri as an important figure in the MCU going forward, following in her late brother’s footsteps as the new Wakandan hero.
While it’s uncertain if Black Panther 3 will materialize, fans can be confident that Shuri’s tenure in the MCU is far from ended, with the character set to play a key part in films such as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.
If a third film is made, it will most likely occur after Avengers: Secret Wars concludes the Multiverse Saga in 2026, leaving fans with a long wait.
Although the wait for a third picture may be lengthy, fans will be able to rewatch Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in less than a month when it is released on Disney+.
