According to Marvel producer Stephen Broussard, Ant-Man 3 will play an important role in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the third episode in Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man trilogy, will reunite fans with Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang after the Marvel hero’s lengthy vacation following his role in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

The film, which will kick off the events of the MCU’s Phase 5, will also include the return of Evangeline Lilly, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Michael Douglas, as well as Kathryn Newton making her MCU debut. Broussard mentioned how previous Ant-Man films had been branded as “palate cleansers” in a recent interview with Total Film magazine (via Games Radar), and how they intended to disrupt this with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Because the Ant-Man films had previously been released immediately after the Avengers movie, Broussard described how they intended the third Ant-Man picture to be its own major effort. As it approaches Phase 5, the producer hopes it will seem “essential” to the MCU.

How Ant Man 3 Might Affect the MCU’s Future

Along with the other returning characters from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Jonathan Majors’ Kang will make a comeback and cause havoc for Scott and the team when they enter the Quantum Realm.

In classic Marvel fashion, little is known about the film’s events at this time. However, the first teaser for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania looked to hint at Scott’s darkest journey yet, with stakes so high that the magnitude of the possible impact is unknown.

In terms of what Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania may imply for the MCU in the future, the film is likely to go further on Kang’s character, who was first introduced in Disney+’s Loki. With projects like Avengers: The Kang Dynasty intended for Phase 6 of the MCU, it’s clear that this all-powerful villain intends to make the MCU his own playground.

Ant Man 3 will most certainly assist establish Kang’s capabilities while also perhaps laying the basis for his future goals.

Some have suggested that Scott may die at the hands of Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, as spectators become suspicious of how Ant-Man would do against Kang during the events of the film. Broussard’s comments stressing Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s relevance in the MCU coming forward are sure to thrill moviegoers.

However, there is sure to be some worry as a result of the producer’s words because they obviously hint at increased stakes, implying that these fan-favorite characters may not be safe and that the gloves may suddenly be off with Kang entering the ring. What Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania means for the MCU’s future will be revealed when the film is released in theatres next year.
